Quick answer (read this first)
If your fan doesn’t respond to the regulator, the most common causes are:
- a loose connection behind the switchboard,
- a burnt regulator (common with low-quality parts / voltage fluctuation),
- a weak fan capacitor (fan runs slow or only works on full).
If you smell burning, see sparks, or your MCB trips: stop and call an electrician.
Safety first
- Switch OFF the fan and turn OFF the MCB for that circuit.
- Confirm power is off with a tester.
- Don’t touch bare wires with wet hands.
Step-by-step
- Check the switchboard for loose terminals.
- If the knob feels burnt/melted, replace the regulator.
- If the fan is slow even on max, suspect the capacitor.
